On this last short visit to Paris we decided to skip the Louvre and try an immersive Van Gogh show at the Atelier des Lumieres in the 11th Arrondissement. Imagine jumping into one of the artist's impressionist paintings while the colors swirl around you and you'll have an idea of what we experienced. There are some benches and balcony seating, but most audience members were happy to stand and gawk as the paintings came to life all around the huge warehouse-size space. One of the most entertaining parts was watching children react to the art. Before the quieter part of the moving image exhibit began, children were running up to the paintings and trying to stay with the images as they moved away from them. The show ended in December 2019 and will be followed by Voyages in the Mediterranean featuring Monet, Renoir and Chagall from Feb. 28, 2020 to Jan. 3, 2021.
Little girls in yellow shirts seem to blend into the painting as it moves across the huge wall.
